“A Dirty History of Cambridge”
Alan Denney
We take a look at Cambridge’s source of drinking water from polluted wells and a filthy River Cam; the first piped clean water supply to a Franciscan community in 1295; the Hobson Conduit in 1610; moving forward to
look at what the Victorians did for Cambridge introducing a pumped clean water supply from the Greensands Aquafer; plus in 1894 completing a system for dealing with sewage and cleaning up the polluted river Cam.
